Binh Dinh penalizes fishing vessels for IUU violations

As part of the peak period campaign against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Binh Dinh Provincial Border Defense Force Command has implemented comprehensive measures to prevent and strictly handle IUU violations by fishing vessels.

Through the inspection and supervision of fishing vessels to combat IUU fishing violations, Cat Khanh Border Post (Phu Cat District), under the Command of Binh Dinh Provincial Border Defense Force, discovered the fishing vessel KG 94435 TS, captained by Duong Thanh Duoc (44 years old) from Quarter 9, Duong Dong Ward (Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang), which was operating in the southern sea area without maintaining the vessel monitoring system during operations for vessels with a maximum length from 15 meters to less than 24 meters. This vessel was fined 25 million VND by the Binh Dinh Border Defense Force.

Similarly, the fishing vessel BD 92249 TS, captained by Tran Nhanh (43 years old) from My Thang Commune (Phu My District, Binh Dinh), was fined VND 25 million for not complying with regulations when the vessel monitoring system was malfunctioning. Additionally, the captains' certificates of the two violating fishing vessels were suspended for 4-5 months.

Additionally, the Cat Khanh Border Post (Phu Cat District, Binh Dinh) fined 12 crew members who were not listed in the crew register, with each crew member fined VND 750,000. One vessel owner was fined VND 17.5 million for not purchasing insurance for 15 crew members.

Previously, on 05/27/2024, the Binh Dinh Border Defense Force also imposed administrative fines on four fishing vessels for violating fishing regulations, with a total penalty of VND 100 million.
