After Typhoon Yagi, rice prices in the North increased highly, making businesses difficult to purchase

(VAN) After Typhoon Yagi, the price of fresh rice reached VND 8,000–9,000/kg, equivalent to VND 13,000–14,000/kg for dry rice. Many Northern farmers did not sell but hoard it to eat and wait for higher prices.

The impact of Typhoon Yagi and the subsequent flood caused this crop in the North to seriously decrease in rice productivity in many localities. That's why all types of rice have record price increases compared to before. The common selling price for fresh rice is VND 8,000–9,000/kg. For quality varieties like Japanese rice J02, the price goes up to VND 10,000/kg. However, the psychology of many farmers is reluctant to sell.

Mr. Dang Huu Chinh, Director of Phu Nghia Agricultural Cooperative in Chau Can commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi City, said that the unit recently planted 40 hectares of Dai Thom 8 rice under a contract with a business. To purchase the quantity according to the signed contract, the business had to increase the price to VND 9,000/kg of fresh rice purchased right at the bank, which is the highest record price ever.
