According to the General Department of Customs, in January 2021, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to Thailand achieved US$ 16 million, up 97.2% over December 2020 and up 14.8% over January 2020.
With the export value growth rate as mentioned, Thailand has surpassed the US to become the second-largest market for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable in the first month of this year, occupying 5.2% of the total fruit and vegetable export turnover.
On the contrary, fruit and vegetable imports from Thailand to Vietnam in January reached US$ 7.2 million, equal to nearly half of the value of fruit and vegetable exported from Vietnam to Thailand.
As a result, after the first export of fruit and vegetable to Thailand in 2020, Vietnam once again continued the fruit and vegetable exports to Thailand in the first month of 2021.
The main fruit and vegetable products exported from Vietnam to Thailand are red and white flesh dragon fruit, mango, longan, lychee,…
Dragon fruit is one of Vietnam’s key fruits exported to Thailand.
At the same time, in January 2021, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to other key markets receive growth in value compared to the same period in 2020. To be specific, exports to China were up 5.39% and reached US$ 183 million; exports to the US were up 20.67% and reached US$ 13 million; exports to the EU were up 12.56% and reached US$ 12 million…
China is still the key consumer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable in the first month of 2021, occupies 59% of the total fruit and vegetable export turnover of the whole country, reaches US$ 182.92 million.
In general, in the first month of this year, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports have gained US$ 309.62 million, up 10.3% over January 2020.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable currently have many opportunities to promote exportation to many markets.
Despite the growth in January, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exportation in the first quarter of 2021 is prognosticated to face many difficulties due to the fact that the Covid-19 global pandemic is still in complicated development.
However, with the new Free Trade Agreements which have taken effect recently or not for long such as UKVFTA or EVFTA, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports have the potentials to boost exports to the consumer markets such as the UK and EU this year.
Furthermore, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable also have many opportunities to promote exportation to other important markets, especially Australia. Vietnam and Australia are both members of the Agreement of Establishment of the ASEAN - Australia - New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) which took effect in 2010 and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) which took effect at the end of 2018.
Thanks to these agreements, most Vietnamese goods exported to Australia enjoy a preferential tax rate of 0% and many other favorable conditions.
