Vietnam Plastics Association promotes commitment to sustainable development

(VAN) The Vietnam Plastics Association, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Nature and Environment Protection Association, presented 200 fruit trees to soldiers of Brigade 167, Naval Region 2.

As part of the series of events celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam Plastics Association (October 22, 1990 - October 22, 2025), and in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Navy (May 7, 1955 - May 7, 2025) and the 12th anniversary of Brigade 167 (July 12, 2013 - July 12, 2025), the Vietnam Plastics Association (VPAS), in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Nature and Environment Protection Association, organized the program “Tree planting and trash bin donation for Brigade 167 - Naval Region 2.”

The event served to reaffirm the close bond between the plastics industry community and the armed forces, jointly protecting the environment and safeguarding the nation, while promoting the message of sustainable development for a greener future for the country.

As part of the program, the Vietnam Plastics Association presented 200 fruit trees, mainly mango, jackfruit, milk fruit, sapodilla, and Siam coconut, to soldiers of Brigade 167, Naval Region 2. The initiative aims to expand green spaces within the brigade’s area, promote environmentally friendly practices, and encourage a sustainable, nature-connected lifestyle among the officers and soldiers.

In addition to the trees, the association also donated trash bins for daily use and collaborated with the brigade’s personnel to sort waste at the source. This activity is intended to raise awareness about proper waste management and actively promote source-based waste separation, a key priority and a significant policy within Vietnam’s environmental protection framework.

According to Ms. Huynh Thi My, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Plastics Association, the gifts are not only practical contributions but also help create clean, green, and aesthetically pleasing spaces that enhance the living and working environment of naval personnel. Moreover, these actions serve as a concrete example of the association’s ongoing commitment to fostering green lifestyles and advancing the circular economy, highlighting the strong collaboration between the plastics industry and the armed forces in building a sustainable future.

“We regard sustainable development as a guiding principle that runs through all of the Association’s activities. This is not merely a charitable initiative, but also an expression of gratitude from the plastics business community to the naval soldiers who safeguard the nation’s seas and skies day and night. The tree-planting and the donation of waste bins to Brigade 167 stand as a clear testament to the plastics industry’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

In the face of global challenges such as climate change and plastic waste, we believe that growth only has real value when it is coupled with social and environmental responsibility. It is through small yet consistent actions that we can help shape a greener, cleaner Vietnam,” Ms. My emphasized.

Over the course of 35 years of establishment and growth, the Vietnam Plastics Association has served as the representative body of the country’s plastics business community, now comprising more than 213 member enterprises. Throughout this journey, VPAS has consistently taken the lead in connecting businesses with society at large, while accompanying the Government in advancing the national agenda of green transition and sustainable development.

In its role as the official voice of Vietnam’s plastics industry, and as an active member of the ASEAN Federation of Plastic Industries (AFPI), the Asia Plastics Forum (APF), and the World Plastics Council (WPC), VPAS has made significant contributions to shaping policies, fostering innovative initiatives, and promoting constructive dialogue. These efforts have enabled both domestic institutions and international partners to gain a more accurate, comprehensive, and objective perspective on the development, challenges, and opportunities of Vietnam’s plastics sector.

In parallel, VPAS has always stood side by side with its members by providing support, facilitating connections, sharing information, and enhancing competitiveness. This latest event further underscores the close bond between the plastics business community and the armed forces, joining hands to protect the environment and safeguard the nation, while also spreading the message of sustainable development for a greener future for Vietnam.
