Vietnam pangasius accounts for 93% of catfish imports into the US

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers  (VASEP), the information cited from National Marine Fisheries Service shows that, for the first eight months of this year, the USA has imported over 83 thousand tons of pangasius and catfish from 25 countries, valued at USD 235,5 million.

In which, imports of pangasius from Vietnam consist up to 93% in volume and 90,5% in value with 77,5 thousand tons, worth USD 213 million.

The second-largest supplier for the US market is China with almost 5 thousand tons, worth over USD 17 million, accounting for 6% in volume and 7,3% in value. Other sources of supply account for a negligible proportion.

The average import price of pangasius from Vietnam to the USA for the last eight months was USD 2,74/kg, while the import price from China was USD 3,44/kg
