Vietnam hosts the International Pig Veterinary Conference

(VAN) IPVS has approved the right to host the 28th IPVS Conference in 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, with Nong Lam University as the main organizer.

Pig farming has always occupied an important position in agriculture to provide food for humans. Along with the increase in demand due to population growth and economic development, total pork production must be increased in quantity and quality on a global scale.

High technologies are applied to increase productivity and significant achievements have been achieved. However, the epidemic problem is always a big challenge for the industry. The epidemic no longer circulates locally but has the ability to spread between countries and continents in today's connected world.

To overcome those challenges, people working in the field of animal husbandry and pig veterinary medicine around the world must share experiences, knowledge, perspectives and opportunities with each other, working towards the goal of developing the livestock industry and managing the health of sustainable pig herds.

The International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) was established in 1967 with the first conference held in Cambridge (UK) in 1969. Since then, every two years, individuals with interests in swine husbandry and veterinary medicine from around the world gather at the conference. Up to now, there have been 26 conferences, the 27th conference will be held in Germany in June 2024.

Hosting the conference is a great honour for a country in the world's major "playing field". It is also a recognition of the development not only of the livestock and swine veterinary industry but also the development of many other fields of the host country. Also, there is a large number of attendees from all over the world. It is estimated that the number of delegates participating in scientific seminars during the conference alone will be more than 3,000 people.

Vietnam has a pig farming industry that has developed over many years with the total number of pigs currently ranking 5th in the world. Many generations of experts and people working in pig farming and veterinary medicine in the country always hope that one day Vietnam will host this meaningful conference.
