Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam expressed his warm welcome toward Minister of Agriculture of Cuba Ydael Pérez Brito and officials upon the Cuban agricultural delegation’s visit and work session with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam.
As the leader of the Cuban agricultural sector, Ydael Pérez Brito has always promoted bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture and rural development. Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam wished the two sides to strengthen cooperation in these fields in order to promote the good traditional friendship between the two countries.
As stated by the Cuban Minister of Agriculture, the two countries in particular and the two ministries in general both have the same purpose, which is to ensure food security in the country. This is not an easy journey for Cuba, so the valuable help from Vietnam becomes even more meaningful. Cuba has achieved much success through Vietnam's technical assistance projects, which is reflected in the increase in farming productivity.

“There is currently a need for further development of agricultural technology in Cuba. It is common knowledge that the development of the country will lead to a reduction in the workforce in rural and mountainous areas, so we aim to increase productivity and output," said the Cuban Minister of Agriculture.
Understanding the difficulties of the friend country due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam said that Vietnam was also a country heavily affected by the impacts of the recent pandemic. In that context, the Party and Government have directed that Vietnam must be self-reliant and take the initiative to ensure domestic food security and export.
