The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the People’s Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province and WWF Vietnam took place on the morning of October 18 in Hue city.

In Thua Thien - Hue, WWF and WWF Vietnam have implemented numerous diverse projects aimed at enhancing sustainable management of natural resources, raising awareness and improving the livelihoods of local communities. These efforts have helped to reduce the risk of illegal forest resource exploitation and wildlife hunting, gradually identifying the biodiversity value of forests and promoting sustainable conservation.

Notably, the project “Hue - a central Vietnam city reducing plastics” has had a very positive impact on the province’s environment and landscape, particularly in Hue city.

The project supports source segregation, waste collection, processing, and promotes recycling from landfills, thereby raising public awareness and changing behaviors related to plastic waste. This has greatly contributed to making Hue city greener, brighter, and cleaner.

Additionally, through WWF, many other important partners such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Germany), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have been connected within the province’s nature conservation network.

These international organizations have contributed to supporting forest management, natural conservation, climate change adaptation, and promoting the image of Thua Thien - Hue’s people and nature to the world.

This framework will mobilize further resources to support Thua Thien - Hue in implementing programs and projects related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

"This work program carries great significance for the cooperation between Thua Thien - Hue province and WWF, marking a new phase of collaboration, especially in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the province", Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized.

At the ceremony, the People’s Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province and WWF-Vietnam discussed some of their past cooperation efforts and outlined future collaboration.

The main focus areas include conservation support, biodiversity enhancement, value chain development, livelihood improvement for forest-dependent communities, environmental and landscape protection, as well as the implementation of the city’s waste segregation program and plastic waste management.
