The harvest season has arrived at the durian hub of Lam Dong

(VAN) Currently, durian producers in the Da Huoai district (Lam Dong) are rushing to harvest the fruit so that it can be exported to the Chinese market.

Profitable transactions, generating substantial revenue

Director of Da M'Ri Agricultural Cooperative (Da M'Ri, Ha Huoai district) Nguyen Thanh Son stated that the cooperative's durian harvest began at the end of May or the beginning of June and is expected to conclude in August. This year, durian production was stable, its selling price was high, and its consumption capacity was high, boosting the joy of farmers.

Nguyen Thanh Son stated, "The cooperative has approximately 350 hectares of durian, with 250 hectares available for harvest. In the orchards, regional purchasing facilities dispatch employees to the garden to finalize contracts and harvest. The cooperative currently has 10 tons of durians for export to China."

Nguyen Van Thanh, a durian producer, stated that Ri6 durians were purchased for VND 45,000- 52,000 per kilogram, while Dona durians were sold for VND 60,000- 70,000 per kilogram. During the 2022 harvest, the price of durian dropped to VND 35,000 per kilogram, and traders refused to buy, which greatly upset producers. "This year, durian is exported via official channels, its price is high, and its consumption is stable. We are ecstatic," said Nguyen Van Thanh, confirming that the current price will allow producers to earn huge profits.

According to the Agriculture and Rural Development Office of Da Huoai, the durian area of the district has reached nearly 6,000 hectares, of which the durian area for commercial purposes exceeds 3,500 hectares with an estimated yield of 40,000 tons. Approximately 60 percent of the Ri 6 area has been harvested, whereas the harvest season for Dona durian is just beginning.

The area of durian in Da Huoai district currently reaches nearly 6 thousand hectares, of which the durian area for business is over 3.5 thousand hectares with an estimated output of 40 thousand tons. Photo: Minh Hau.

Nguyen Van Tu, the head of Agriculture and Rural Development in Da Huoai, stated that 52 planting area codes on 2,000 hectares of local durian were supported by competent agencies. This facilitates the export of local durian products to the Chinese market.

"The harvest area for which planting area codes have been granted has been recognized by Chinese Customs. Therefore, official exports to China have been uninterrupted, and the price of durian in 2022 is higher than it was during the same period the previous year. According to Nguyen Van Tu, with high prices and a stable market, producers can earn enormous profits.

Superior durian production

According to the Agriculture and Rural Development Office of Da Huoai, in the near future, the district will promote communication and dissemination of regulations, policies, and directions regarding the establishment, granting, and management of planting area codes, packaging facility codes to farmers and businesses in order to develop an efficient and sustainable durian industry. In addition, it is crucial to coordinate training and disseminate the processes, documents, and procedures for providing planting area codes and packaging facility codes to organizations and individuals in the durian cultivation regions of the district.

The district also implements VietGAP-compliant durian production to meet the demands of domestic and international markets. Nguyen Van Tu stated that the district would concentrate on the metamorphosis and rebuilding of durian varieties, and would only develop a new area in a region with adequate conditions and irrigation. The development of durian must align with production and regional planning.

According to Nguyen Van Tu, the durian production strategy of the district has been implemented to assure categories, yield, and fit with the district's soils and climate. To meet the stringent criteria of demanding markets, the agriculture sector of the district has encouraged residents and businesses to implement advanced production processes, clean agriculture, and organic durian.

The agriculture sector of the Da Huoai district is focused on the development of high-quality durian, utilizing an intensified cultivation process and integrated pest management to produce high-quality goods with a high yield and guarantee food safety. Alongside this is the implementation of the management process of packaging facilities in accordance with food safety standards, ISO, HACCP, etc., in order to manage plant quarantine objects and pesticide residues on agricultural products to ensure their safety prior to consumption.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, the head of the Da Huoai district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated that the district is strengthening its support for organizations and individuals requiring planting area codes and packaging facility codes. Specifically, to strengthen and expand the production and consumption chains of agricultural products in areas where planting area codes and packaging facility codes have been assigned. In addition to organizing seminars, introducing products, and coordinating with businesses inside and outside the district to promote trade in order to introduce products and extend markets, the agricultural sector of the district organizes seminars and introduces products.
