Veterinarians of Animals Asia check the health of 7 newly rescued moon bears in Phuc Tho.
All seven adult moon bears were transferred from Mr. Nguyen Van Thao's family in Phung Thuong commune, Phuc Tho district, Hanoi. The bears have registered chips and were raised by the family for a long time. It is estimated that the bears are over 20 years old.
Animals Asia has coordinated closely with Hanoi Forest Protection Department in the protection of bears since 2016.
According to information from the Hanoi Forest Protection Department, through the authority’s encouragement, the owner's family has agreed to voluntarily hand over the seven bears to the State. They also wish to bring the bears to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao National Park for care and conservation.
Hanoi Forest Protection Department and local authorities witnessed the handover of bears to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thao is the first family to voluntarily stop raising bears for commercial purposes in Hanoi. This marked a memorable milestone in the propaganda work of the authorities.
This is the second time Animals Asia and Hanoi Forest Protection Department have coordinated to rescue in Phung Thuong commune, Hanoi this year, bringing the total number of bears to 10 individuals.
Phung Thuong is the locality with the most bears in captivity in the country with 122 individuals in 18 private households/private camps.
