The People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province said that it has submitted a document to the Prime Minister for consideration to supplement the province with about VND 350 billion from the remaining compensation amount of Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. to continue. Invest in a number of projects to upgrade fisheries infrastructure.
Projects requiring additional capital include: Project to improve waterway traffic exploitation capacity in Tu Hien estuary area (Phu Loc district) with an estimated budget of VND 220 billion; project to upgrade the storm shelter in Phu Thuan commune (Phu Vang district) with a cost of VND 50 billion; project to dredge beds and waterways to serve ships entering the anchorage area and prevent floods to protect coastal aquaculture areas in Phu Vang district with a budget of VND 80 billion.
Over the past time, from central and local capital sources, fisheries infrastructure in Thua Thien-Hue province has gradually been invested and completed, contributing to improving offshore fishing capacity for fishermen.
However, due to limited funding, many items at fishing ports have not been fully invested; Many channels are filled with sediment, making it impossible for ships to enter and exit anchorage areas; Fishery logistics infrastructure is still limited; Fishing ship repair and building facilities are still fragmented and small...
Investment in building and upgrading fishery logistics service facilities in the area will meet the capacity of 190 ships/day, the amount of seafood passing through the port will reach 30,000 tons/year and about 1,100 ships with a capacity of up to 300 CV anchored to avoid the storm. This is also one of the important factors promoting sustainable development of the fisheries industry, contributing to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Continuing to invest in upgrading fisheries infrastructure will improve Thua Thien-Hue fishermen's fishing capacity. Photo: CD.
