P4G Summit: A message on Vietnam’s transformation of growth model

The P4G Summit, themed "Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition," will be held in Hanoi from April 14 to 17, 2025. This will be the first high-level multilateral summit on green growth, transition, and sustainable development hosted by Vietnam.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, sustainable development and green transition have become an inevitable trend and a strategic path for nations. This Summit serves as an opportunity for Vietnam to reinforce its commitment to implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and expresses its determination to collaborate with the international community to promote a green and sustainable transition at the national, regional, and global levels.

"By hosting the P4G Summit, Vietnam also aims to concretize the guidelines and views of the Communist Party and the State of Vietnam on foreign affairs, deepen relations with its partners, and enhance its role in multilateral mechanisms. This, in turn, will help Vietnam mobilize international resources for development, particularly in climate change mitigation, green transition, digital transformation, science and technology, and innovation," he stated.

As Vietnam enters a new era, the era of national resurgence, this is also an opportunity to reaffirm the sound development direction of the Party and the State, which emphasizes that "Vietnam will not sacrifice social progress, equity, or the environment in pursuit of mere economic growth." Green growth must contribute to restructuring the economy in tandem with transforming the growth model, aiming to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social equity.

"Through the organization of this P4G Summit, we aim to convey to the international community a message of a Vietnam that is determined and making strong efforts to transform its growth model, promote rapid and sustainable development, and showcase its significant economic achievements and potential. At the same time, we wish to highlight the country's unique cultural values and the Vietnamese people's warmth, hospitality, and resilience," the Foreign Minister emphasized.

Regarding the preparation phase, Deputy PM Bui Thanh Son stated that, given the significance and stature of the Summit, preparations have been closely directed and carried out early on, with the active and responsible participation of ministries, sectors, and the city of Hanoi. These efforts aim to ensure the comprehensive success of the event, attract international attention and participation, and reflect Vietnam's hospitality, respect for its partners, and distinctive imprint as a gracious host.

To date, approximately 600 international delegates from over 40 countries and international organizations are expected to attend, including P4G member countries and partners, guests, investment funds, research institutes, scholars, businesses, and diplomatic missions. Events at the P4G Summit will take place in both in-person and online formats.

"This number is still being updated. We expect to welcome many high-ranking leaders from various countries and partner organizations, including the UN Deputy Secretary-General, three PMs, several Deputy PMs, and Foreign Ministers, who will visit Vietnam and attend the summit in person," Deputy PM Son shared.

Regarding the Summit agenda, Vietnam has been actively engaging in discussions and consultations with P4G member countries and partners to determine the Summit's theme, "Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition."

In particular, the focus will be on discussions and sharing experiences regarding policies to promote public-private partnerships (PPP), attract investment, and maximize resources for the green transition. The agenda will also cover applying innovative technologies to improve resource efficiency, reduce emissions, and facilitate the energy transition towards a sustainable path while preparing human resources for a green economy.

The Summit is expected to adopt the Hanoi Declaration, with a strong commitment to green, sustainable, and people-centered development, expressing members' determination to work closely together to mitigate global challenges.

Preparations related to protocol, public relations, culture, and security have also been given significant attention, focusing on thoroughness, respect, safety, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency. On one hand, this enhances Vietnam's reputation for hosting major and important international events, ensuring compliance with international rules, practices, and requirements. On the other hand, it conveys a clear and complete image Vietnam's culture and people to the international community and global friends.

"I am confident that the success of this P4G Summit will bring value to all stakeholders, helping the international community find more effective solutions to global challenges and achieve tangible results in meeting sustainable development goals," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
