One Health is a multi-sectoral approach that integrates agriculture, health and the environment to ensure the best health outcomes for humans, animals, and the environment.
The One Health High-Level Expert Panel of the UN Quadripartite organizations has expanded the definition of the One Health approach to include plant health and a broader perspective on ecosystems, nutrition, and welfare.
However, the spread of diseases worldwide remains unpredictable, particularly with emerging and re-emerging diseases. Zoonotic diseases are also returning to Vietnam.
Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has reported two cases of A/H5 avian influenza in humans. These are the first positive cases since February 2014. This highlights the urgency of implementing the One Health approach in this context.
