As of February 28, 2024, the total number of fishing vessels in the province is 1,762; of which, 942 fishing vessels exploit coastal waters, 289 fishing vessels exploit open waters and 531 fishing vessels exploit offshore waters. The number of fishing vessels that have installed cruise monitoring equipment is 517/531 fishing vessels.

Districts have focused on implementing measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Up to now, the management of fishing vessels and management of seafood exploitation activities has been in order. Legal provisions on fisheries exploitation, especially regulations on preventing and combating IUU fishing, are propagated to fishermen in many forms. Offshore fishing vessel owners clearly understand the regulations on combating IUU fishing and comply with regulations on fishing areas, installing and operating cruise monitoring equipment on ships. They are also informed about regulations on leaving, docking and exiting ports, complying with inspection and management of coastal Border Guard Control Stations. Ship owners/captains engaged in offshore fishing activities in Hai Hau district have recorded and submitted fishing logs to the fishing port's management organizations and monitor output according to regulations.

However, there are still some fishing vessels whose owners do not embark on fishing activities, so the installation of cruise monitoring equipment has not reached 100%; some fishing vessels lost connection to their cruise monitoring equipment for over 6 months. Many fishing vessels lose their cruise monitoring signals while operating at sea for more than 6 hours or more than 10 days and have not been promptly resolved. Some ship owners sell their ships to others but do not carry out procedures for transfer of registration or deletion of registration, making it difficult to review and verify ships...

In addition, the handling of administrative violations of IUU fishing, especially for fishing vessels that do not maintain navigation monitoring equipment in coastal districts, is still limited. There still exist some fishing vessels with expired registration and no fishing license; Fishing vessels with a length from 6m to less than 12m operating in coastal areas have not submitted their exploitation reports to the port management organization according to regulations. Spontaneous fishing wharves in the districts have not cooperated well with the port management organization to collect and submit exploitation logs, and exploitation reports, and monitor exploitation output.

After inspecting the actual work against illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation in the districts, the Inspectorate Team summarized the results and reported to the Provincial People's Committee.
