Mekong Delta: Releasing millions of fish seeds to the nature

On April 1, about 2 million fish seeds were released at the Xeo Nhao fishing port's sea entrance to restore aquatic resources.

To mark the 63rd anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam's fisheries industry, the Fisheries Association of Kien Giang province, the Sub-Department of Fisheries (Kien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), in collaboration with the districts of U Minh Thuong, Kien Giang province, businesses, and organizations, released over 2 million hatchlings into the wild to help regenerate aquatic resources. Seeds were supplied by businesses, industries, and households in the region that specialize in the production, trade, and rearing of seeds.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of the Kien Giang Fisheries Association, stated that through the releasing activity,  organizers hope to disseminate the message of joining hands to protect the environment and responsibly exploit aquatic resources.

The organizers got active assistance from 25 groups and people, who supplied 2 million aquatic seeds, primarily black tiger and white-leg shrimp, as well as five mother shrimps during their breeding stage, to be released back into the sea.

On the same morning, Vinh Long province's competent agencies performed an activity to distribute seeds for recreation and development of fishery resources in Tan Quoi commune, Binh Tan.

Mr. Le Thanh Tung, Director of Vinh Long Province's Sub-Department of Livestock, Animal Health, and Fisheries, stated that the provincial industry has mobilized over 30 organizations and people to fund the release of over 200,000 fingerlings into the wild. These are economically valuable aquatic species that have been overexploited. Thus, the effort aims to restore ecological balance in nature and stabilize species populations.

Additionally, Vinh Long province's Agriculture and Rural Development department urged aquaculture organizations to participate in the province's traditional Fisheries Day activities, such as releasing aquatic products on the list of permitted animals into the wild to increase the density of aquatic species. Before that, the Pagodas of Ngoc Xa Loi and Thien Phuoc released 750,000 aquatic breeds.

Additionally, the Vinh Long Sub-Department of Livestock, Animal Health, and Fisheries, in collaboration with provincial functional units, destroyed 22 Dinamo, 15 electric jacks, and two batteries that had been seized before. These are fishing gears were used to kill aquatic creatures.
