According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Nhun district (Lai Chau), lumpy skin disease has appeared in the district on buffaloes and cows in the concentrated breeding area of 6 households in Tong Pit village (Muong Mo commune) with 25 cows and 6 buffaloes infected.

As claimed by Mr. Quan Van Thuy, one of six families whose cow and buffalo herds suffered from lumpy skin disease, on April 22nd, when he went to check his family's cattle in the concentrated grazing area of the household group, he discovered that there appeared nodules on the skin of buffaloes and cows, but he only thought it was simply caused by common mosquito, flies, or ticks.

Two days later, upon returning for examination, the nodules did not decrease but spread more and more, not only one but many had similar symptoms. After reporting to the local authorities, the specialized agency of the district took samples to test and determined that the cattle were infected with lumpy skin disease.

The People’s Committee of Nam Nhun district had directed a specialized agency to cooperate with Muong Mo commune to guide livestock households to implement epidemic prevention and control measures, organize detoxification and disinfection in livestock households in the area where the disease has appeared, carry out isolation and confinement of sick and disease manifested cattle according to regulations, gather statistics of cattle, request livestock households to commit not selling off, slaughtering, or throwing carcasses into the environment...

Moreover, the People's Committee of Nam Nhun district also instructed communes and towns to review, check and report the situation and symptom of lumpy skin disease on cattle, take samples for testing and announce epidemic outbreak according to regulations.

Actual inspection by localities and district specialized agencies showed that apart from the disease outbreak appeared in Muong Mo commune, at present, manifestations and symptoms of lumpy skin disease also appeared in the concentrated breeding area (over 100 buffaloes and cows) of Nam Nhun village (Nam Nhun town) and household group’s raising area (under 15 buffaloes and cows) in Chang village (Le Loi commune). Test samples had been taken, waiting for results.

The People's Committee of Nam Nhun District proposed the People's Committee of Lai Chau province to support funding for the annihilation of infected cattle and for the purchase of vaccines for cattle...
