The Green Era group begins a project to green natural forests by planting 1,000 native trees in Dakrong Nature Reserve by the end of 2023. Photo: H.P.
A group of students at Le Quy Don Specialized School (Quang Tri) conducted a donation campaign to plant native trees such as green ironwood, bullet wood, and chukrasia to help cover the white spaces in the natural forest in Quang Tri. This is how young people realize their dream of a "Green Era".
Green Era is the name of the group. In the first round, this group raised more than VND 120 million. From this amount of money, 1,000 native trees were personally planted by the group in poor forest areas of Dakrong Nature Reserve.
By mid-May, 1,000 forest trees have gone through more than half a year of growth. Green buds have sprouted from the tree trunk. The tree roots are also firmly attached to the soil. Compared to when it was first planted over half a year ago, each tree has grown half an inch taller.
The people who are happiest when seeing the above results are the young people of the Green Era Group. Your dream of greening empty hills and poor forests has begun to come true.
Quang Tri is a province often affected by climate change. Droughts, floods, and landslides continuously occur. All are related to the forest. So, the Green Era project aims to mobilize people to support afforestation, gradually increase coverage, preserve soil, prevent erosion, and limit flash floods that cause landslides.
With 1 hectare of newly planted forest, the group will take care of it for 5 years, from 2023 - 2028. That is also the period when the tree matures. The tree canopy will green the entire previously vacant land.
The project not only plants forests but also spreads awareness of forest protection to people. The group has set up a fanpage to promote afforestation and donate trees to schools to convey knowledge and messages about the value of afforestation.
Through planting forests, the project hopes that young people will have a space for meaningful experiences. Then, those young people will be the ambassadors who transmit the project's message of "Contributing to green natural forests" and contributing to replicating this model more and more widely.
