On June 12, Mr. Truong Thanh Ha, Acting Director of the Gia Lai Sub-Department of Forestry and Forest Protection, announced that the province has completed a project investigating and conserving certain endangered and rare forest plant and animal species, as well as priority species for protection in the area.

According to the investigation results from the Gia Lai Department of Forestry and Forest Protection, in coordination with the Forest Inventory and Planning Sub-Institute for Central South and Central Highlands Regions, there are 460 rare and endangered species of plants and animals in the province. Among them, 319 are plant species; the animal species include 65 bird species, 36 reptile species, and 40 mammal species.

According to Mr. Truong Thanh Ha, the aforementioned investigation and conservation results hold significant scientific value for natural resource management and sustainable development. “The investigation results show that Gia Lai province has a very rich biological resource base, including hundreds of species listed as endangered, precious, and rare in the Vietnam Red Book, the IUCN Red List, as well as other domestic and international legal documents,” said the acting Director of the Gia Lai Sub-Department of Forestry and Forest Protection.

Based on the investigation results, the project has proposed conservation and ecosystem restoration solutions to improve the effectiveness of forest protection and the recovery of endangered species.
