Efforts to implement Net Zero to guide sustainable development

(VAN) On March 26, Dong Nai province organized a symposium on the world's Net Zero Trend and the green and sustainable development orientation.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Linh emphasized that green growth is a global trend and an inevitable development path for the world.

To date, there are 137 countries, representing 88% of the world's total emissions, including major emitters such as the US, China and India that have committed to or are working towards a Net Zero target - net zero emissions.

Vietnam is one of the five economies forecast to be most affected by climate change, so Vietnam is a pioneer in committing to Net Zero goals. Implementing the Government's commitment and aiming for green and sustainable development, Dong Nai province focuses on early building and implementing a carbon reduction project in the area by 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Located in the Southeast region, Dong Nai has the fourth largest economic scale in the country, with a natural area of 5,863 km2, and a population of over 3.2 million people, In the province, there are over 53 thousand businesses with more than 1.6 thousand FDI projects and more than 1 thousand domestic investment projects.

Dong Nai is also one of the 5 provinces with the largest budget contribution to the country and is pursuing the goal of green, sustainable development, implementing the Government's commitment to the convention at the COP26 and COP28 conferences.

The province has also gradually implemented the millennium goal of sustainable development, and is making efforts to more strongly promote green development in the province. Along with that, Dong Nai is determined to develop in a sustainable direction, setting the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero - achieving "net zero" by 2050.

At the conference, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province announced Decision No. 385/QD-UBND of the province dated February 19, 2024, approving the project to reduce carbon emissions until 2030, with a vision to 2050. Acting Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc said that the carbon reduction project plays an important and necessary role in Dong Nai province's implementation of its commitment to the climate goals of both the country and the international community. At the same time, this Project also contributes to environmental protection, improving quality of life and sustainable economic development.

According to the above project, Dong Nai province will study greenhouse gas emissions records and determine the direction of greenhouse gas emissions in 4 areas: energy, waste, industrial processes and product uses; agriculture, forestry and land use change. Dong Nai wishes to strengthen cooperation with domestic and international partners in investment programs and projects and sustainable development...
