At around 7:30 a.m. on March 28, an official from the People's Committee of Ban Thi commune (Cho Don district) noticed a wild animal hanging on the bulletin board of the commune's People's Committee office. Upon discovery, the officer reported it to the Commune People's Committee and the Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area Management Board.
Subsequently, the Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area Management Board provided information and photos to the Forestry University for assessment. The results confirmed that this is a small loris species, scientifically known as Nycticebus pygmaeus, an endangered and rare animal prioritized for protection, categorized under group IB (as per Decree 84/2021-ND-CP).
Upon preliminary examination, the small loris showed no signs of injury and appeared to be in good health. The Management Board of Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area, in coordination with the People's Committee of Ban Thi commune, released this individual loris into the natural environment within the reserve's special-use forest.

This morning (April 3), staff at the Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area discovered another small loris when the wild animal was seen hanging on the window of the Forest Ranger Station in Coc Toc, Dong Lac commune (Cho Don district). Currently, the Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area Management Board is processing the necessary procedures to release this loris into its natural environment.
Mr. Luong Quoc Hai, Director of Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area, stated that after the discovery of the two small lorises, the reserve and local authorities have intensified patrolling and protection efforts. They are also educating the communities around the reserve to refrain from harming these two lorises in particular, and wild animals in general.
