According to Mr. Dao Xuan Thuy, Director of Chu Mom Ray National Park (Quang Ngai province), the park has documented the presence of several rare pheasant species using camera trap technology automatic cameras installed in the forest. The footage captured common junglefowl as well as rare species such as the Purple Pheasant (Group IIB), Red-faced Pheasant, White-throated Pheasant, Yellow-faced Pheasant, Crested Argus, and the Hump-chested Pheasant (Group IB).
In addition to the camera traps, patrol teams have also encountered these birds in the wild. Whenever forest rangers appear, the pheasants quickly retreat into the dense forest to hide.
The Crested Argus (Group IB) has also been spotted within Chu Mom Ray National Park. Photo: Chu Mom Ray National Park.
Mr. Thuy added that the areas where these rare birds were found are deep inside strictly protected forests. The park has compiled the photographic evidence collected to support mapping and conservation activities.
