On August 2, Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent a document to the Plant Protection Department requesting support and plant quarantine for its durian of the 2023 crop.

According to Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the durian crop of other provinces has almost finished the harvest, only Dak Lak’s durian remains. Therefore, organizing phytosanitary inspection for durian export is reasonable for this province considering the current context, thereby controlling the origin of shipments and preventing fraudulent use of growing area codes or packing facility codes.

Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has thus requested the Plant Protection Department to assign units under the Department to act as the focal point, appoint staff, and arrange specialized equipment to organize phytosanitary inspection and carry out quarantine procedures in localities for shipments in the crop year 2023. Because of the very urgent time, Dak Lak durian is entering the harvesting stage, Dak Lak’s agricultural sector asks the Plant Protection Department to pay keen attention and coordinate to complete the procedures and preparations before August 5.

Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will be responsible for arranging working offices, rooms for specialized machinery and equipment so that the delegation of the Plant Protection Department can well perform its role during the implementation of the mission in the province.

Previously, Chairman of Dak Lak Durian Association Vu Duc Con sent a document to Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development after having a meeting with the Plant Protection Department and requesting support for the export procedures of the province's durian batch in the crop year 2023.

At the meeting, the Plant Protection Department agreed to appoint staff and arrange specialized equipment to execute phytosanitary inspections and carry out local quarantine procedures for durian shipments in Dak Lak province. Regarding the Plant Quarantine Station, an organizational structure must be established, so it has not been put into operation yet. The Plant Protection Department would review the necessary contents and report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development later.

According to Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, this province has more than 22,000 ha of durian with an output of over 200,000 tons. The harvesting time is from the end of July to October every year. Conducting phytosanitary inspection at localities will contribute to creating favorable conditions for farmers and businesses in transporting shipments, preserving product quality, and shortening the waiting time for clearing customs procedures at the border gate.
