Celebrating the contributions of businesses supporting sea turtle conservation

(VAN) Avani Quy Nhon Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas were awarded certificates of merit by Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for their contributions to the conservation of sea turtles.

Avani Quy Nhon Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, in collaboration with Binh Dinh Sub-Department of Fisheries, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and local community organizations for the protection of aquatic resources in 4 communes and wards along Quy Nhon bay. Thư two units have implemented several environmental activities in 2022. Notable activities include: beach cleanups; trash collection from the seabed at the coral reef ecosystem protection area; capacity building to raise awareness regarding the protection of sea turtle habitats.

Additionally, these businesses have donated to help the Community Organization for the Protection of Aquatic Resources in Nhon Hai commune (Quy Nhon city) co-manage the protection of local sea turtle spawning grounds, thus making great contribution to raising social and business awareness the protection of endangered sea turtles in Vietnam.

Mr. Tran Van Vinh, Deputy Director of Binh Dinh Sub-Department of Fisheries highly commended the support of Avani Quy Nhon Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas in protecting the environment and marine ecosystem in Quy Nhon bay, with a focus on sea turtle protection.

Binh Dinh's agricultural sector expects these enterprises to continue cooperating with Binh Dinh Sub-Department of Fisheries in the protection of biodiversity, the environment and rare animals according to the CITES Convention.

Erik BillGren, Director of Avani Quy Nhon Resort Company, commented this is a remarkable achievement not only for the Company but also for Minor Hotel Group. The enterprise has assisted in the conservation of sea turtle in many countries around the world such as Thailand and Maldives. Avani Quy Nhon Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas are happy to represent the Group in making an important contribution to the conservation of the environment and biodiversity in Quy Nhon Bay.

Binh Dinh Sub-Department of Fisheries, Avani Quy Nhon Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas signed a memorandum of cooperation in sea turtle conservation activities in 2023 in Quy Nhon City. Furthermore, Mr. Erik BillGren donated VND 5 million to the Community Organization for the Protection of Aquatic Resources in Nhon Hai commune. He wishes to help protect the local sea turtle spawning grounds during the upcoming breeding season.
