On May 9, MARD Minister Le Minh Hoan and his deputies met with affiliate unit leaders. After hearing the reports, the minister instructed the units to analyze all assigned tasks, eliminate bottlenecks, and expedite execution to obtain the desired outcomes.

"The reasons may stem from the force, human, time, or knowledge... We need to seek simpler tools to develop and implement plans and strategies for the sector", Mr. Le Minh Hoan noted.

When constructing and implementing plans for the agriculture industry, he also emphasized the need for an open thinking and a larger area to collect opinions: "We can build the plans step by step with the involvement of internal and external units and experts of the ministry, avoiding the state of working on its own."

The chief of the agriculture business underlined that it must not be restricted to technical and scientific considerations, but future plans must be based on market thinking.

The Minister and the Director of the Crop Production Department discussed the dragon fruit program in the southern regions.

In the context of exceptional weather developments, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien notified specialized agencies of more particular directions about this year's food production.

In addition, the livestock and fisheries sectors must have a clear grasp on the implementation strategy in light of the fact that the import index for many raw materials is lowering compared to the same time last year.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien underlined that "the units must follow up and have prompt production response solutions in order to meet the targeted output target."

Regarding the fisheries sector, Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized the need to reform the commodities business, reorganize fishermen's operations, and construct cooperatives that work more efficiently.

Optimistic agricultural production

In mid-April, the country sowed 3,496.7 thousand hectares of winter-spring and summer-autumn rice and harvested around 1,893.6 thousand hectares, an increase of 5 percent year-over-year; the output totaled 12.8 million tons.

In April, the Minister of Livestock Production continued to cooperate closely with areas to firmly implement epidemic control and preventative measures so that diseases and epidemics remained mostly under control. The Ministry also promoted the establishment of disease-free husbandry areas; coordinated with appropriate ministries and departments to adopt measures to control and stabilize animal feed prices and lower production costs...

By the end of April, the animal and poultry population had stabilized. Specifically, the buffalo herd is expected to shrink by 1.9%, while the cowherd may expand by 1.3%, pigs increase by 5.5%, and poultry increase by 2.2%.

In April, the Northwest, Central, and Central Highlands provinces all experienced deforestation. However, in the first four months of the year, forest damage fell significantly compared to the same period last year, mostly due to the efforts of several communities to educate the public and coordinate the execution of fire prevention measures.

April seafood production was anticipated at 736.4 thousand tons, up 2.6% from April 2021. The entire output for four months was estimated at 2,600 thousand tons, an increase of 2.2% over the same period the previous year.

In April, the export turnover was over USD 4.8 billion, an increase of 11.2% compared to April 2021; the export value of main agricultural products was approximately USD 1.9 billion, primary forest products were estimated at USD 1.6 billion, seafood was at USD nearly 1.1 billion, and livestock was USD 29.7 million...
