Binh Thuan province deploys solutions to promote dragon fruit consumption

Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent a document to localities and affiliated units, implementing solutions to remove difficulties and promote dragon fruit consumption in the province.

Accordingly, in the immediate future, Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requires the Sub-Department of Quality Management of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Sub-Department of Cultivation and Protection of Plants, and Agricultural Extension Center to regularly receive information on the situation of dragon fruit import and export situation of congestion, backlog at the northern border gates to promptly notify dragon fruit producers, cooperatives, dragon fruit production, trading and exporting enterprises in the province to know;

From there, there is a plan to produce, harvest, consume as well as regulate and transport dragon fruits to the border gates in a reasonable way, limiting the situation of local redundancy, backlogs that cannot be exported;

Along with that, strengthen propaganda and guide businesses and manufacturers to fully implement and comply with Covid-19 prevention and control measures at businesses, cooperatives, packing, and purchasing establishments, organizations, and individuals that have forwarding activities in the production and trading of dragon fruit;

Promote dragon fruit production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to meet export market requirements.

The Sub-Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management shall assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade, the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, the Agricultural Extension Center, and the People's Committees of districts, cities, and towns to urgently advise the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on the organize a conference to connect some domestic exporting and processing enterprises with dragon fruit production and trading enterprises and cooperatives to have solutions to connect dragon fruit consumption in the current period.

In the long term, Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to coordinate with the Sub-Department of Quality Management of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Agricultural Extension Center and People's Committees of districts, cities, and towns to forecast market demand for dragon fruit;

Develop a reasonable and appropriate production plan right from the beginning of the year, firmly grasp the monthly and quarterly harvest output between localities to coordinate with enterprises or establishments exporting dragon fruits for consumption to avoid the surplus crisis, prices fell deeply.

Also, continue to perform well the task of strictly managing the growing areas, dragon fruit packing establishments that have been granted export codes in the province, and strictly handling the use of planting area codes.

In addition, the Sub-departments of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Management, Cultivation and Plant Protection, the Center for Agricultural Extension, according to their functions and tasks, implement and guide localities to develop dragon fruit production plans according to the master plan, meet the requirements of standards and regulations on goods traceability;

Strengthen the management of food quality and safety; ensure strict control of the situation of using chemicals, stimulants, pesticide residues on agricultural products;

Promote propaganda for people, businesses, cooperatives, and cooperative members to continue to link production and consumption more closely; at the same time, production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards to meet the requirements of the export market;

Propagate and encourage companies and enterprises to actively develop a storage and preservation system of fresh dragon fruit...

According to Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, it is expected that from now until the end of February 2022, the whole province will harvest dragon fruit with a yield of over 121,000 tonnes. As of January 13, the dragon fruit graded one price is only between VND 1,000 and VND 2,000 per kilogram.
