Binh Thuan, Kien Giang provinces’ authorities ignore fishing boats crossing the maritime boundary

Implementing the task of providing public services and products to monitor fishing vessels, the Fisheries Information Center reported the results of monitoring and processing data to monitor fishing vessels that crossed the allowed maritime boundary and those that lost connection signal for over 10 days in June 2021.

Specifically, seven Vietnamese fishing vessels were detected to cross the allowed maritime boundary. The Fisheries Information Center issued 7 notices for 7 ships in 3 provinces of Binh Thuan, Kien Giang and Tien Giang; however, it has received only a reply document.

Accordingly, the Sub-Department for Quality Management of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries (the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang Province) has sent a letter to request the Economic Department of My Tho City; Economic Department of Go Cong town, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Go Cong Dong district to summarize and report the results of punishing fishing boats TG-93979-TS.

The remaining two provinces with fishing vessels crossing the allowed maritime boundary are Kien Giang (with 4 fishing vessels violating the boundary including: KG-94357-TS; KG-94862-TS; KG-94489-TS; KG-94005-TS) and Binh Thuan (with two ships Bth-97336-TS; BTh-95859-TS), although they were notified by the Fisheries Information Center (General Department of Fisheries) but did not respond.

In addition, the Fisheries Information Center also detected 91 fishing vessels that lost connection signal over 10 days at sea through the monitoring system and therefore issued 28 notices to 91 ships in 20 provinces. However, only 11 provinces have responded.

The remaining 9 provinces have not yet coordinated including Bac Lieu (1 vessel), Ben Tre (13 vessels), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (15 vessels); Ha Tinh (1 vessel); Khanh Hoa (1 vessel); Quang Ninh (1 vessel); Soc Trang (1 vessel); Thai Binh (1 vessel) and Thanh Hoa (4 vessels).
