In Ben Tre province, every day, nearly 70 tons of plastic waste is discharged into the environment, but only 10% is collected and recycled while the rest is buried in landfills. The rate of implementing waste separation at source according to the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection is still low (approximately 15%). A large proportion of people still keep the habit of dumping garbage into rivers and canals at the wrong places.

Ms Nguyen Thi Be Muoi, Vice Chairwoman of Ben Tre People's Committee said: Environmental pollution, including plastic pollution, is threatening human life. The consistent view of Ben Tre province is that socio-economic development must go hand in hand with environmental protection, aiming toward the goal of sustainable development.
In particular, the province focuses on the implementation of the campaign against plastic pollution in order to effectively control and enforce the policy against plastic waste, increase recycling, reuse, and solve plastic waste pollution. Rational use of natural resources. Conservation of biodiversity and response to climate change. Promote the construction of a green economy, circular economy.
Over the past time, functional agencies and local authorities in Ben Tre have actively implemented solutions to combat plastic pollution. Prominent organizations such as the Women's Union, Farmers' Union, Youth Union and the Provincial Education and Training sector have had a model of collecting plastic waste for recycling, and fundraising to create a ripple effect among the masses.
In response to World Environment Day 2023, Ben Tre province immediately implemented practical plans and actions to combat plastic pollution such as: Launching campaigns to clean up the environment and collecting and treating plastic waste floating in rivers, canals, canals, beaches, and coastal fishing ports. Additionally, there are activities to plant trees, "combating" non-degradable plastic bags, and disposable plastic products and encourage the use of environment-friendly products.
