Bayer accompanies Dak Nong farmers to improve durian quality

(VAN) Bayer Vietnam, together with Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, deploys a model of sustainable durian farming, controlling pests and diseases, and ensuring productivity and export standards.

Durian is a strategic crop that is receiving great attention because of its high economic value. However, to be successful in durian farming, farmers have to face many challenges and are required to master farming techniques, including managing nutrients and diseases and using an appropriate amount of irrigation water. In addition, farmers must cope with adverse weather conditions while ensuring standards for pesticide residue management.

Along with that, farming area code construction and good quality and pesticide residue management play an important role in promoting durian exports, meeting market requirements, and ensuring high income for people.

With the goal of finding and replicating effective farming methods to solve the above-mentioned challenges and improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese durian fruit in the world market, Bayer Vietnam has cooperated with the Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to guide and deploy a model of sustainable durian farming for farmers. In addition, the cooperative program also supports farmers to expand farming areas, contribute to local socio-economic development, improve income, and protect the environment.

Mr. Kg Krishnamurthy, Director of the Crop Science Division of Bayer Vietnam, said that through cooperating closely with Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, Bayer Vietnam wishes to support farmers with solutions for pest management in weather conditions affected by climate change, ensuring product quality, and controlling pesticide residues. Thereby, helping Vietnamese durian stand firm in the global market, with priority given to safety and sustainable development.

The cooperative program also focuses on improving farming capacity and knowledge for agricultural extension officers and farmers. Accordingly, the first training session was conducted for 50 agricultural extension officers, who play a key role in disseminating knowledge and best practices to farmers. This will be followed by a series of 10 training sessions for more than 400 farmers in the area. The training sessions will focus on farming techniques and the safe and responsible use of plant protection products throughout the durian farming process.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Director of the Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, said that sustainable durian farming is an inevitable trend. In the coming time, the Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center will replicate the model for households growing durian and other crops. At the same time, the unit will also disseminate information to help people raise awareness about managing and treating the waste of agricultural materials during the use process.

Mr. Phan Viet Cuong, Dak Wer hamlet (Dak Rlap district, Dak Nong province), expressed his joy to be one of the farmers supported in applying the model of sustainable durian farming by Bayer Vietnam Company and Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center. Previously, he both planted and learned from friends. The farming process was mainly based on the experience and sharing of his predecessors, which made durian care not very effective.

After receiving support on scientific care processes from Bayer Vietnam and Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, he gains more knowledge about effective durian care and hopes to reap a successful crop in the next few months and, at the same time, be able to export durian at high prices.

In addition, Bayer Vietnam also offers farmers the solution "Much More Durian" to help manage pests and diseases effectively while still ensuring optimal crop productivity. Notably, this solution ensures control of pesticide residues, helping farmers meet quality and safety requirements for exported durian when used properly.
