According to Ninh Van Hieu, Director of Nam Dinh's Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary only two communes including Hai Nam of Hai Hau district and Nghia Thanh of Nghia Hung district reported the resurgence of ASF on May 11.
Since then, the disease has quickly arisen and spread to more than 80 pig farming households in 23 communes of three districts including Hai Hau, Nghia Hung and Truc Ninh. According to statistics, the whole province destroyed 265 pigs with the total weight of over 14 tons.
"In the coming time, the ASF situation continues to be complicated and at risk of spreading widely and more dangerously than in 2020," Hieu warned.
In that context, the control and management of the disease in Nam Dinh has faced a number of difficulties as: the ASF virus can survive in the environment for a longer time and withstand high temperatures. Small-scale pig farms accounted for 70% of the total; many farm owners are still lack of awareness about the control and prevention of the disease, do not follow strictly the guidelines and recommendations of the veterinary sector.
The grassroots veterinary system no longer has great influence on the disease prevention and control. Especially, the removal of quarantine rules for livestock transportation in the province is a loophole spreading the disease. In addition, the land for highly concentrated animal farms is limited
With the complicated development of ASF, Nam Dinh's Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary warned that the farm owners should strictly follow regulations to prevent and control the disease, spraying, disinfecting and cleaning the farms periodically and applying biosecurity measures, etc.
