1,240 ha of coconuts ready for export to China

(VAN) Tra Vinh Department of MARD announced that it has 1,240 ha of coconuts that meet the phytosanitary requirements and are ready for export to China.

Specifically, the areas of coconut meeting the conditions and requirements for export to the Chinese market include 150 ha in Rach Nghe hamlet (Thong Hoa commune) and nearly 111 ha in Ngoc Ho hamlet (Tam Ngai commune) of Cau Ke district; over 112 ha in Binh Hoi hamlet (Huyen Hoi commune), 130 ha in Binh Phu commune, and over 63 ha in Rach Dua hamlet (Dai Phuoc commune) of Cang Long district; 173 ha in Soc That hamlet and nearly 159 ha in Ben Co hamlet (Nguyet Hoa commune) along with 137 ha in Bot Chech hamlet and 206 ha in O Chich B hamlet (Luong Hoa commune) of Chau Thanh district.

Le Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, stated that the provincial agriculture sector has been actively guiding farmers in implementing unified production processes, fully recording cultivation logs, managing pests according to the requirements of the importing country, and complying with food safety conditions.

The Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department of Tra Vinh is currently undertaking procedures to request the Plant Protection Department to consider, compile, and negotiate with the importing country (China) to issue production unit codes and packing facility codes for export purposes.

As of now, Tra Vinh has been granted 26 export production unit codes and 60 domestic production unit codes, including one export production unit code for coconuts in Rach Nghe hamlet, Thong Hoa commune, Cau Ke district, covering an area of 150 ha.

Currently, Tra Vinh has approximately 90,000 households cultivating coconuts on an area of 27,390 ha with nearly 7 million trees, mainly concentrated in the districts of Cang Long, Tieu Can, and Cau Ke. The coconut planting area of Tra Vinh ranks second in the country, only after Ben Tre province, with an annual yield of about 444 million coconuts.
