(VAN) Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien hopes that the organizing units will continue to make efforts and be creative so that each exhibition will be more professional and dynamic.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized that over the past 10 years, the livestock sector has consistently maintained a growth rate of 5-7%/year. The production of various types of meat has increased 1.8 times, from 4 million tons to over 7.9 million tons; eggs have increased threefold, from nearly 6.4 billion to 19.2 billion; and fresh milk has risen 3.9 times, from 0.3 million tons to 1.2 million tons.

According to the latest data, in the first nine months of 2024, the livestock sector has continued to maintain its growth rate. The total number of pigs nationwide is estimated to have increased by 2.5%; the total number of poultry has risen by 2.2%; the total number of cattle has decreased by 0.4%; and the total number of buffaloes has decreased by 3.6%. Livestock product exports reached 376 million USD, an increase of 3.8%, while the import of animal feed and raw materials decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period last year, making a significant contribution to the growth of Vietnam's agricultural sector.

According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, while the livestock sector has achieved positive results, it continues to confront numerous difficulties and challenges. These include outbreaks of diseases, the impacts of climate change, fluctuations in market prices, issues related to antibiotic resistance, environmental concerns, and food safety. One of the most pressing challenges is the heavy reliance on raw materials for animal feed production, which directly affects the industry's competitiveness in the context of the global economy. Addressing these urgent issues is essential for ensuring the sustainable development of Vietnam's livestock sector moving forward.

The Deputy Minister assessed that Vietstock 2024 not only provides an opportunity to showcase and introduce advanced products and technologies in the livestock sector but also facilitates interaction among businesses, researchers, and experts in the field. It allows them to exchange knowledge, learn from each other, and share experiences through various seminars.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the role of the Organizing Committee (the Department of Livestock Production, Informa Markets Group and the Fisheries Department) and the media sponsor, Vietnam Agricultural Newspaper, for their efforts in maintaining this important annual event like Vietstock 2024.

"I hope that the organizing units will continue to strive and innovate so that each exhibition will be more professional, dynamic, and attract even more businesses and participants", emphasized Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien.

The exhibition gathers breakthrough products, services and technologies from leading enterprises both in Vietnam and internationally, providing an innovative space for the livestock and aquaculture sectors.

One of the standout features of the exhibition is the Innovation and Creativity Pavilion, which highlights exceptional products in the fields of aquaculture, animal health, and livestock nutrition. Attendees will have the opportunity to directly experience cutting-edge solutions and emerging trends that promote the sustainable development of the industry.

Mr. Ben Wong, General Director of Informa Markets Vietnam, expressed that Vietstock and Aquaculture Vietnam have established themselves as vital hubs for the livestock sector. These events provide opportunities for industry stakeholders to come together, exchange valuable experiences, and foster collaborations, aiming for a brighter future together.

Mr. Ben Wong said: "This year marks an important milestone - 20 years of development for Vietstock. With the theme 'Transforming livestock for higher productivity, better nutrition, a cleaner environment, and improved lives', Vietstock 2024 underscores our commitment to building a sustainable and prosperous livestock industry in Vietnam".

"I am certain that Vietstock 2024 and Aquaculture Vietnam 2024 will offer a rich and valuable experience for all participants. The knowledge shared during these events, the connections established among industry professionals, and the innovative products discovered here will greatly contribute to shaping a sustainable future for both the livestock and aquaculture sectors", Mr. Ben Wong emphasized.
