Vietnam catches the sustainable aviation fuel wave

(VAN) Developing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) greens the sky and offers a golden chance for Vietnam to join the global value chain.

Climate change and the commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 are putting immense pressure on all economic sectors, particularly aviation. To solve the greening puzzle, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is emerging as a key solution.

Recently, in Da Nang, the 2026 Policy and Technology Innovation Forum on Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Vietnam (IPS Vietnam 2026) marked the first international event in Vietnam dedicated to sustainable aviation fuel.

The event was co-organized by the Asian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) in collaboration with the Da Nang Innovative Startup Support Center (DISSC), Star Consulting and Veritas.

Around 70 domestic and foreign entities, including airlines, fuel producers, technology enterprises and regional financial investment funds, also attended the Forum to seek cooperation opportunities within the SAF value chain.

Notably, the event was accompanied by many major corporations and enterprises in the energy and aviation sectors, such as Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR), Airbus, Axens, the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council, Aether Fuels and Velocys.

The global aviation industry is accelerating its carbon emission reduction roadmap and transitioning to cleaner energy sources to meet the net-zero emissions target by 2050. SAF is considered a crucial solution to reduce the aviation industry's CO₂ emissions without requiring major changes to current infrastructure or aircraft operation technologies.

In that context, the forum focused on various strategic content groups, such as policy dialogue on energy transition in the aviation industry; developing the SAF ecosystem and market; Vietnam's raw material potential in the regional value chain; as well as investment, innovation and international cooperation mechanisms to promote the development of sustainable aviation fuel.

IPS Vietnam 2026 is not only a specialized forum on sustainable aviation fuel but also a multi-sectoral connecting space between energy, finance, technology, logistics and innovation.

Through the event, Vietnam is expected to participate more deeply in the global SAF value chain and open new investment and cooperation opportunities in the green energy transition sector.

The shift towards green energy production also aligns perfectly with the circular economy development orientation and Vietnam's ongoing efforts to enhance international competitiveness and meet stringent environmental standards. Embracing the SAF development trend is not merely a story of the transportation sector alone, but a crucial part of the overall picture of an eco-friendly, ecological economy.
