Viet Nam, India promote cooperation in green tech and clean energy

(VAN) Knowledge, data, technology, and high-quality human resources become new building blocks of bilateral strategic cooperation.

As part of the State visit to the Republic of India, on the evening of May 6 (local time) in New Delhi, the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, in collaboration with India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, organized the Viet Nam - India Innovation Forum under the theme "Cooperation in human resource development, science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation."

Speaking at the Forum, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the agencies of both countries for jointly organizing the Forum with a highly relevant and timely theme, reflecting the development trends of the era and the increasingly profound cooperation needs between Viet Nam and India.

The General Secretary and President noted that rapid breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, big data, biotechnology, quantum technology, and clean energy are fundamentally transforming production methods, growth models, and the global economic structure. Trends such as the digital economy, green economy, and circular economy, together with the need to ensure technological security, data security, and supply chain stability, are shaping a new era of development.

Recognizing these trends, Viet Nam has issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, along with the National Strategy on Innovative Startups.

The General Secretary and President expressed his impression of India’s remarkable achievements in information technology, software development, engineer training, public digital infrastructure, digital payments, the pharmaceutical industry, space technology, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors.

He emphasized that the two countries share many similarities in their long-term development visions. Viet Nam aims to become a developed, high-income country by 2045, while India is implementing the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision to become a developed nation. These orientations create strong momentum for the two countries to enhance cooperation in the new phase, as the Viet Nam - India economies are highly complementary.

The General Secretary and President proposed that the Forum focus on discussing and clearly identifying priority areas of cooperation, and on building new cooperation spaces in science and technology through large-scale projects and long-term collaboration mechanisms. He called for promoting the formation of a Viet Nam - India Digital Partnership and advancing the model of "co-research, co-development, and co-production."

He also emphasized the need to improve coordination mechanisms among actors within the innovation ecosystem, particularly the "three pillars" model: the state - scientists - enterprises. At the same time, he urged the promotion of public-private partnerships, the establishment of risk-sharing mechanisms, and the encouragement of enterprises to increase investment in research and development.

Enterprises from both countries should take the lead, boldly invest in new technology fields, strengthen research and development cooperation, and participate in building symbolic joint projects. This would help deepen Viet Nam - India relations through production linkages, technology transfer, and integration into global value chains.

The General Secretary and President also proposed strengthening substantive connectivity between research institutes, universities, and enterprises of the two countries, aiming to form a Viet Nam - India technology human resource corridor.

He affirmed that with a foundation of political trust, the complementarity of the two economies, and the vast potential of human resources, cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation will become an important pillar, directly contributing to economic growth, enhancing competitiveness, and strengthening the strategic autonomy of each country.
