Viet Nam, Germany to diversify investment portfolios

(VAN) In addition to projects on forestry and natural resource management, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri called on Germany to step up investment in irrigation, disaster prevention, and fisheries.

On February 3, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri held a meeting with the Project Completion Review Mission for the project “Integrated Coastal Protection and Mangrove Forest Land Restoration in Kien Giang and Ca Mau Provinces,” financed by ODA loans from the Federal Republic of Germany.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Adrian Klocke, Portfolio Director of KfW Development Bank; Mr. Daniel Plankermann, Director of KfW Development Bank for Vietnam and Laos; along with the Project coordinators.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri congratulated the Central Irrigation Projects Management Board (KGCM Project Owner) on the successful completion of all set objectives, as well as its effective coordination with local project owners to bring the project to completion on schedule.

Regarding construction works and afforestation, all components of the KGCM Project at both central and local levels were completed in accordance with the signed contracts. At the central level, the project completed four sluice gates, four pumping stations, and two forest management stations.

At the local level, sub-projects in Kien Giang (now An Giang) and Ca Mau completed a total of 14 km of embankments, planted more than 112 hectares of new forest, and carried out maintenance for 170 hectares of forest. All works were handed over and put into operation in January 2026.

As of January 30, 2026, 100% of both counterpart funds and foreign capital had been fully disbursed in line with the volume of works accepted. This achievement was made possible thanks to the strong support from the German side, particularly the German Embassy, KfW Development Bank, and relevant stakeholders.

Looking ahead, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri called on the German Government and KfW to continue accompanying and supporting the effective implementation of ongoing projects, as well as those currently in the preparation phase, thereby contributing to the achievement of the set objectives.

“The Federal Republic of Germany, through KfW, should consider diversifying its investment portfolio in Vietnam. In addition to traditional areas such as forestry, natural resource management, and sustainable development, cooperation could be expanded to other practical and impactful sectors, including irrigation, disaster prevention, and fisheries,” Deputy Minister Tri said.

Mr. Adrian Klocke, Portfolio Director of KfW, highly appreciated the efforts of the project owner, as well as the close and decisive guidance provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment throughout the implementation process, which enabled the project to be completed within a short timeframe and to achieve its set objectives.

According to him, this is one of the exemplary projects reflecting the effectiveness of substantive cooperation between Viet Nam and Germany in recent years, particularly in the fields of climate change adaptation and sustainable development. KfW also expressed its hope that projects currently under preparation and implementation will continue to receive close attention and guidance from the Ministry in order to achieve similarly positive outcomes.
