The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), recently announced a grant notice of USD 500,000 for U.S. biofertilizer producers to explore markets in Viet Nam while supporting market expansion opportunities for American farmers and businesses, titled "Increasing Market Opportunities in Viet Nam for U.S. Innovative Biofertilizer Exporters".
The funding opportunity focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of U.S.-produced biofertilizers in improving crop yields in both the U.S. and Viet Nam.

Local entities will work with Vietnamese partners to provide scientific evidence and expert input to support the development of national fertilizer management guidelines, including solutions such as the application of microbial coatings and high-efficiency fertilizers to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers.
In addition, USDA plans to organize visits for U.S. organic rice farmers to Viet Nam to learn and share experiences in the use of biofertilizers. The program will also monitor Viet Nam’s import trends for at least three biofertilizer products.
USDA/FAS is inviting State cooperative institutions or other colleges and universities in the U.S. to participate in implementing the two-year technical assistance. Vietnamese exporting businesses and organizations may join as field implementation partners but will not be direct recipients of the funding.
This is part of the Fertilize Right implemented by USDA/FAS since 2023. USDA’s official partner is the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) and an implementing partner from an international agricultural research organization. According to USDA, the initiative aims to improve fertilizer use efficiency and develop alternatives to conventional chemical fertilizers. This is expected to help farmers reduce input costs, increase productivity, and promote the development of sustainable agriculture.
