Thai Nguyen grants FSC certification to over 7,600ha

In Yen Phong commune, forestry is a key strength of the local economy. In recent years, the commune has encouraged residents to convert low-productivity forests into large timber forests, gradually meeting FSC standards.

Mr. Chu Van Trieu, Chairman of the Yen Phong Commune People's Committee, said the commune has nearly 4,000 ha of land dedicated to afforestation, with local residents mainly growing magnolia, cinnamon, and acacia. To date, around 1,900 ha of the commune's forest has been granted FSC certification.

According to Mr. Trieu, this represents a major shift in local residents' production mindset, as they have gradually moved from spontaneous practices to planting and tending forests in accordance with technical standards and market requirements. Businesses are currently linking with local households to secure timber purchases, with selling prices expected to be higher than those of conventionally grown timber.

As of mid-July 2026, Thai Nguyen Province had nearly 45,200 ha of forest certified by FSC. The province strives to certify an additional 5,000 ha from now through the end of the year.

Currently, forest ranger stations continue to strengthen management and monitoring of FSC-certified forest areas while inspecting and supervising forest owners' implementation of sustainable forest management plans in accordance with their commitments.

Thai Nguyen's forest ranger force is continuing to review and assess additional forest areas that meet certification standards, contributing to higher economic value from forests and the sustainable development of the forestry sector.

In the first seven months of 2026, the province's concentrated forest plantation area reached nearly 7,700 ha, exceeding the set target and increasing 23.7% from the same period in 2025. The forestry sector and local authorities have actively encouraged units and residents to carry out replacement planting and dispersed tree planting in line with the plans.
