As demand for expanding MD2 pineapple growing areas continues to rise, seedling quality has become a critical factor determining growers' investment efficiency. MD2 is considered one of the most commercially valuable pineapple varieties, suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. The variety stands out for its attractive appearance, high-quality flesh, sweetness, aroma, and excellent storage potential. In Viet Nam, many localities and enterprises are seeking to develop MD2 pineapple production areas linked to processing facilities, domestic distribution networks, and export-oriented supply chains.
One thing to note is that high-quality planting material is the first and most decisive factor in the success of large-scale MD2 pineapple cultivation. If seedling sources are poor or disease management is inadequate, production areas may face significant risks related to plant growth, productivity, fruit quality, and cultivation costs. Proactively securing a source of disease-free, uniform MD2 pineapple seedlings capable of supplying large quantities is therefore a pressing requirement for the pineapple production industry today.
