Tay Ninh develops roadmap to treat 100% of pesticide packaging

(VAN) Tay Ninh is tightening the collection and treatment of pesticide packaging, aiming to process 100% of hazardous agricultural waste by 2030 to ensure sustainable environmental protection.

The Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee has recently issued Plan No. 1248/KH-UBND on the collection, transportation, and treatment of post-use pesticide packaging across the province, aiming to strengthen waste management in agricultural production, protect the environment, and safeguard public health.

The plan is developed based on the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and its guiding documents, aiming to increase the rate of collection and treatment of pesticide packaging generated from agricultural and forestry production. Thereby contributing to the development of clean and sustainable agriculture in connection with the new rural and civilized urban development programs.

Accordingly, the collection, transportation, and treatment of post-use pesticide packaging are implemented through a three-step process. Users are responsible for collecting all used packaging and placing it into designated tanks or containers. People's Committees of communes, wards, and towns are tasked with organizing the collection and transportation of hazardous waste to centralized sites and signing contracts with licensed hazardous waste treatment units for proper disposal in accordance with regulations.

The plan requires localities to install storage tank systems that meet technical standards, with roofing, impermeable foundations, and locations set away from residential areas and domestic water sources. Each commune and ward must arrange at least two collection points to ensure convenience in collection and transportation while meeting environmental protection requirements.

Pesticide packaging collection, transportation, and treatment activities must be conducted periodically at least twice a year or when storage tanks are full. Funding will be allocated from the state budget in accordance with decentralization, alongside the mobilization of socialized resources and other lawful sources, to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Tay Ninh province aims to collect 80% of the total generated volume by 2026 and 100% by 2030, thereby helping reduce environmental pollution in agricultural production.

The synchronous implementation of the plan is expected to enhance effective control of hazardous waste in agricultural production and raise public awareness of environmental protection, moving toward a green, safe, and sustainable agriculture across Tay Ninh province.
