Syngenta urges green action from fields to rural communities

Building environmental protection habits through practical actions

On June 5, in Ngoc To commune (Can Tho City), Syngenta Viet Nam Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the Can Tho Department of Agriculture and Environment, organized the 2026 “Clean Environment – Green Life” program. The event reaffirmed the company’s commitment to partnering with local authorities to build environmentally friendly agriculture for sustainable development.

Initiated in 2014, the “Clean Environment – Green Life” program was created to raise community awareness about the environmental impacts of improperly discarded crop protection product packaging.

According to Syngenta Viet Nam, after 12 years of implementation, the program has collected 189.5 tons of used crop protection product packaging and planted more than 5,300 trees across numerous localities nationwide.

In 2025 alone, the initiative collected more than 8.2 tons of packaging and planted 1,850 trees along rural roads in the Mekong Delta. All collected packaging is processed under strict procedures by professional service providers, in accordance with Syngenta Group’s global environmental safety standards.

This year, the program is being implemented in multiple Mekong Delta localities.

In An Giang, activities are taking place in Hon Dat, Thanh Loc, Can Dang, and Vinh An. As for Can Tho City, the program is organized in Vi Thanh 1, Co Do, Truong Khanh, and Ngoc To communes, attracting participation from local agricultural authorities, grassroots governments, and farmers.

The program focuses on three key activities: training on the safe use of crop protection products under the “4 Rights – 5 Golden Rules” principle; collection of used packaging combined with incentive gifts; and tree-planting campaigns along rural roads.

Through training sessions, farmers receive guidance on the effective, safe, and responsible use of crop protection products, as well as labor protection measures and proper packaging disposal procedures. The goal is to minimize negative impacts on human health, the environment, and agricultural ecosystems.

One of the most popular activities among residents is the exchange of used crop protection product packaging for daily necessities such as sugar, cooking oil, and seasoning powder. This approach helps improve awareness of packaging collection while gradually establishing environmental protection habits within rural communities.

“I find the program highly practical because it not only promotes safe product use but also creates opportunities for farmers to bring packaging to designated collection points instead of leaving it in fields or canals,” said Tran Van On, a farmer in Hon Dat, An Giang.

Joining hands to build greener and more sustainable countrysides

In addition to packaging collection activities, the program also launched tree-planting campaigns along newly developed rural roads.

Nguyen Minh Tri, Chairman of the Ngoc To Commune People’s Committee, said the locality has partnered with Syngenta Viet Nam for many years in environmental protection and social welfare activities.

“The Party Committee, local authorities, and residents of Ngoc To Commune are delighted to continue receiving support from Syngenta Viet Nam and the Can Tho Department of Agriculture and Environment through this meaningful program. Over the years, Syngenta has supported many practical initiatives in the locality, including crop protection product packaging collection and the construction of rural bridges, helping improve residents’ quality of life.

“During this campaign alone, more than 1,000 trees were planted along a district road stretching approximately four kilometers. The road was recently built and will continue to be expanded in the future,” Chairman Tri said.

As a company with a long-term commitment to Vietnamese agriculture, Syngenta views environmental protection as an inseparable responsibility in all its activities.

Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Can Tho Department of Agriculture and Environment, has a high evaluation of the program’s effectiveness, as it delivers substantial benefits to both agricultural production and local communities.

Beyond the “Clean Environment – Green Life” initiative, Syngenta Viet Nam also implements other community programs such as “Syngenta Bridge” and “Syngenta Home,” supporting the construction of houses, schools, and assisting disadvantaged students in many provinces nationwide.

The “Clean Environment – Green Life” program continues to affirm that sustainable development begins with concrete and practical actions in everyday life. When governments, businesses, and citizens work together, rural areas across the Mekong Delta can become greener, cleaner, and more livable.
