Quang Ngai spends over $206,000 to boost anti-IUU fishing efforts

The Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee has allocated over USD 206,000 from the province’s 2026 budget contingency fund to implement measures aimed at combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Under the decision, a total of USD 206,350 has been earmarked to support the management, inspection, and monitoring of fishing activities, as well as the implementation of IUU-related enforcement tasks by relevant agencies and coastal localities.

Of the allocated funding, approximately USD 165,100 has been assigned to the Provincial Border Guard Command, while the Provincial Police Department will receive USD 20,900. The Ly Son Special Administrative Zone has been allocated more than USD 13,600. Coastal localities, including Dong Son Commune, Van Tuong Commune, Binh Son Commune, Duc Pho Ward, and Tra Cau Ward, have also received funding to implement anti-IUU fishing measures in their respective jurisdictions.

The Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee has instructed agencies, units, and local authorities to manage and utilize the allocated funds for their intended purposes, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with financial regulations. State Treasury Region XV is responsible for overseeing and processing expenditures in accordance with current regulations.

The allocation of these resources is intended to strengthen the management of fishing activities, prevent violations of fisheries regulations at sea, and support Vietnam’s nationwide efforts to address the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning on the country’s seafood sector. By enhancing monitoring, enforcement, and compliance, the province aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the fisheries industry and the removal of the EC’s warning measures.
