Promoting Viet Nam - Cambodia trade

Co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province, the conference will take place under the theme “Enhancing supply chain connectivity and developing sustainable Viet Nam - Cambodia border trade”.

The conference is expected to gather around 250 delegates, including representatives from government agencies, trade promotion organizations, industry associations, and the business communities of both Viet Nam and Cambodia. Cambodia’s delegation will include officials from the Ministry of Commerce, representatives of local authorities, and enterprises operating in manufacturing, trade, and logistics.

At the conference, participants will discuss measures to promote bilateral trade, develop logistics and e-commerce, expand digital payment solutions, and strengthen supply chain connectivity between the two countries. Alongside thematic discussion sessions, the program will feature B2B networking activities, product exhibitions, and the signing of cooperation memoranda to expand investment and business opportunities.

The conference is expected to boost sustainable border trade and strengthen trade ties between southern Viet Nam and Cambodia. The long-term goal is to raise bilateral trade turnover to USD 20 billion by 2030.

The event will be held in both in-person and online formats at the Dong Thap Conference Center, with virtual participation available via Zoom and the Trade Promotion Agency’s official fanpage.

According to the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam and Cambodia trade relations have maintained positive growth momentum in recent years, becoming a bright spot in economic cooperation within the Greater Mekong Subregion. With a shared border stretching approximately 1,137 kilometers and an increasingly modern border gate system, the two countries enjoy favorable conditions for expanding trade, logistics, and cross-border investment.

In recent years, bilateral trade turnover has continuously increased. In 2024, two-way trade reached approximately USD 10.1 billion, up 17.5% year-on-year, before surpassing USD 11 billion in 2025.

Viet Nam’s key exports to Cambodia include textiles and garments, steel products, petroleum, machinery and equipment, chemicals, and processed foods. Meanwhile, Viet Nam mainly imports cashew nuts, rubber, agricultural products, and industrial raw materials from Cambodia.

In the agricultural sector, Viet Nam and Cambodia's cooperation is also opening up significant development opportunities, particularly in plant varieties and the development of agricultural value chains. According to agricultural experts, rather than focusing solely on raw agricultural exports, Viet Nam is gradually shifting toward a high value-added export strategy centered on plant breeding and agricultural technology.

Cambodia is considered a highly promising market for Vietnamese enterprises supplying high-quality seeds, and for cooperation in developing large-scale raw material zones through formal bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Experts also noted that exporting an “agricultural ecosystem” comprising seeds, technical processes, equipment, and value chain management solutions to Cambodia could create a new development path for Vietnamese agriculture. This marks a transition from exporting agricultural commodities to exporting agricultural technology and expertise.

As bilateral agricultural trade continues to grow, the combination of Cambodia’s strengths in land resources, raw materials, and labor with Viet Nam’s processing capacity, logistics network, and export experience is expected to help build more sustainable agricultural supply chains across the region.
