PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam drives the low-emission transition

On July 8, 2026, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam Co., Ltd. was officially recognized at the World Energy and Environment Forum - Viet Nam 2026, receiving the prestigious award for “Outstanding Enterprise in Green Energy and Environment - NetZero Viet Nam 2026.”

This recognition comes as Viet Nam accelerates its transition to low-emission and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050.

With the theme “Viet Nam Concretizes the Path to Net Zero,” the Forum, organized by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the World Energy Council in Viet Nam, aims to recognize business models that contribute to sustainable economic growth and support enhanced competitiveness in the transition to a low-emission economy.

The “Outstanding Enterprise in Green Energy and Environment - NetZero Viet Nam 2026” award recognizes businesses that have translated sustainability goals into concrete actions, based on criteria such as ESG strategies, greenhouse gas emission reduction, renewable energy use, cleaner production, waste management, development of more environmentally friendly products and packaging, and sustainable governance and reporting systems.

For PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam, the award reflects the implementation of PepsiCo Positive (pep+), PepsiCo's global sustainability strategy, in which Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) elements are integrated into the value chain, from agricultural sourcing, production, packaging to community activities.

After over three decades in Viet Nam, PepsiCo alongside its partner Suntory has injected more than 1 billion USD into the domestic food and beverage sector. On the food processing front, the company operates manufacturing plants and distribution hubs across Ho Chi Minh City and Ninh Binh Province, alongside three regional offices, creating employment opportunities for over 13.000 direct and indirect workers.

From Binh Duong to Ninh Binh, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam raises the bar for more sustainable snack production

The production facilities in Binh Duong and Ninh Binh are key operational platforms for PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam, combining established sustainable operational experience in the South with expansion capabilities in the North.

As PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam's first food production facility, the Binh Duong plant is closely linked to the development of the Lay's and Poca brands. With an area of ​​over 40.000 m² and a designed capacity of over 19.000 tons/year, the plant operates production lines for snacks made from fresh potatoes and other ingredients.

The plant has consistently received the Binh Duong Province Green Book Award in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. Most recently, in 2025, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam was honored with the Ho Chi Minh City Green Enterprise Award.

In 2025, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam will continue to implement numerous technology-based initiatives to improve energy efficiency, support greenhouse gas emission reduction, and optimize resource utilization in its production operations.

These solutions include an Intelligent Compressed Air Management (IFC) system, upgraded cooling systems, a fuel conversion from LPG to CNG, waste heat recovery in the production process, and the reuse of treated water using Nano/RO technology.

Specifically, the IFC system is estimated to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 8%, while the conversion to CNG is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by about 500 tons and save approximately VND 2.6 billion annually.

In addition, the company is also implementing solutions to improve resource efficiency and promote circular economy in production. The starch recovery and water recycling systems help save tens of cubic meters of water per day. The newly installed potato sorting and recovery line allows for the recovery of up to 70% of some materials that would otherwise be discarded. Recyclable waste is sorted and transferred to specialized partners, helping to reduce the percentage of operational waste that needs to be landfilled at the plant to below 1%.

Complementing its operational base in Binh Duong, the PepsiCo Foods Ninh Binh plant marks a significant expansion in the northern region. Inaugurated on November 25, 2025, in the expanded Dong Van I Industrial Park, the plant has an investment of approximately USD 90 million, covers an area of ​​80.000 m², and has a designed capacity of over 25.000 tons of snacks per year.

The project was completed in 51 weeks, setting a record for PepsiCo in the Asia-Pacific region. It integrates advanced production lines, automation, digitalization, nearly 1 MWp of rooftop solar power, and a biomass boiler with a capacity of 12 tons of steam per hour.

From Vietnamese potatoes to packaging and recycling, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam is driving a more resource-efficient snack value chain.

In the agricultural value chain, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam collaborates with over 2,500 farming households annually in the Central Highlands and Northern Viet Nam, implementing technological solutions such as precision irrigation systems, weather-monitoring stations, and electronic farm diaries. This optimizes water and fertilizer use, optimizes inputs, protects soil and environmental health, and improves adaptation to climate change.

Through public-private partnerships with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and other value chain partners, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam supports initiatives that promote low-emission agricultural practices and more efficient use of resources.

A prime example is the “She Feeds the World” program implemented by CARE Viet Nam, with a budget of USD 1.1 million for the period 2022-2025. The program reached over 100,000 small-scale farming households in the Central Highlands, approximately 60% of whom were women and ethnic minorities. Participating households reported a 22% increase in productivity, a 50% reduction in chemical fertilizer use, and a 20% increase in average household income.

In the packaging and circular economy sector, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam implemented initiatives to reduce material consumption, minimize waste generation, and support emission reductions related to packaging and logistics. Packaging optimization alone resulted in a reduction of approximately 47 tons of corrugated cardboard and an estimated 470 tons of CO₂e per year.

Within the framework of its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam participates in the Packaging Recycling Alliance Viet Nam (PRO Viet Nam), contributing to policy development and collaborating with partners to improve post-consumer packaging collection and recycling, and to raise awareness of the circular economy.

At the community level, PepsiCo Foods Viet Nam collaborates with the GRAC platform to implement the Green Point program at universities and residential areas. To date, 6 Green Points have attracted over 17,000 participants and collected approximately 42.2 tons of recyclable waste.

The company is also implementing the Project to Support Informal Waste Collection Workers and Waste Traceability in Ho Chi Minh City, which aims to improve working conditions and enhance transparency and efficiency in collection and recycling.
