Nghe An releases pangolin to the wild

The People’s Committee of Tuong Duong Commune coordinated with the Commune Police, the Protected Forest Management Board, and local forest rangers to receive and subsequently release a pangolin back into the wild.

The activity contributes to wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection, and raising public awareness of forest conservation.

The pangolin, weighing nearly 3 kg, was released in a protected forest area near the boundary between Tuong Duong and Yen Na communes.

Previously, at around 7 a.m. on August 24, the family of Ms. Tran Thi Hai, a resident of Hoa Nam Hamlet, Tuong Duong Commune, discovered the pangolin. Recognizing it as a protected wild animal, the family proactively notified local authorities and handed the pangolin over to the competent authorities in accordance with regulations.

After receiving the animal, the relevant agencies conducted an inspection, prepared a handover record, and agreed on a plan to return the pangolin to its natural habitat.

Following the incident, the authorities in Tuong Duong Commune continued to raise public awareness and encourage residents not to illegally hunt, trade, transport, or keep wild animals in captivity. Residents were also encouraged to promptly notify and hand over wild animals they encounter to the competent authorities for appropriate handling, rescue, and release.
