In the 2025 - 2026 winter-spring crop, the Kien Hung Commune Economic Division collaborated with ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company to deploy a trial model of the TBH456 hybrid rice variety in Ngoc Lien village on a scale of 0.3 hectares. The model was methodically organized from field selection and transplanting to care and monitoring, comprehensively evaluating the variety's growth, adaptability and yield potential.
According to the Kien Hung Commune Economic Division, monitoring results showed that the TBH456 rice variety had a high germination rate of 96%, with uniform, plump and healthy sprouts that are easy to incubate. This rice variety exhibits good cold tolerance, strong tillering and a concentrated tillering time; the maximum number of tillers reaches 9 per hill, with a high percentage of effective tillers.

The TBH456 rice variety has an average height of 105.5 cm, featuring a stiff stalk and good lodging resistance. Notably, its heading period is short and concentrated, taking only about 5 days from the beginning to the end of heading, making it less susceptible to adverse weather conditions. The total growth duration is about 125 days, which is considered short compared to many current rice varieties.
Regarding biological characteristics, the TBH456 rice variety has long flag leaves, broad leaf blades, and a yellow-green color. It produces large panicles with a length of 23.2 cm. The grains are elongated, densely packed, and have high field purity, creating a premise for stable yields. Throughout the production crop, major pests and diseases appeared at low levels. No rice blast or bacterial leaf blight was recorded, while some pests and diseases like sheath blight and stem borers only caused minor damage, not significantly affecting the yield.
According to the Kien Hung Commune Economic Division, one of the highlights of TBH456 is that all yield components reached high levels. The average number of panicles reached 221 per square meter; the number of filled grains per panicle reached 168; the empty grain rate was low at only 8.2%; the 1,000-grain weight was 25.5 grams.

The actual yield reached about 8 tons/ha (80 quintals/ha), equivalent to 289 kg/sao (a traditional Northern Vietnam measurement). With a selling price of 7,000 VND/kg, the estimated revenue is 56 million VND/ha, bringing clear economic efficiency compared to many traditional varieties.
Mr. Vu Nhu Dong, Vice Chairman of the Kien Hung Commune People's Committee, stated that the TBH456 rice variety has initially shown outstanding advantages in its adaptability to the local soil, as well as its potential for yield and quality.

The Vice Chairman requested specialized units, departments, and agricultural cooperatives to continue closely coordinating with the seed supplier to monitor and evaluate the variety's stability across different seasons. This will serve as a basis to advise the Commune People's Committee on the local rice variety structure.
As for ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company, the Vice Chairman proposed they continue accompanying the locality, supporting farmers with scientific and technical knowledge, and testing more new varieties suitable for local soil and farming practices. Concurrently, they should supply quality-assured seeds and offer appropriate support policies to replicate the successful model in Kien Hung commune.
Ms. Pham Thi Nghe, a model participant, hopes the TBH456 rice variety will be expanded in upcoming crops to boost farmers' incomes. Photo: Dinh Muoi.
As a participant in the model, Ms. Pham Thi Nghe excitedly shared: "Through actual production, the TBH456 rice variety showed many clear advantages, especially yielding very high. I hope this rice variety will continue to be expanded in upcoming crops to help farmers improve their incomes".
