Early-season Henicorhynchus priced at VND 250,000/kg

In early August, many products characteristic of the flood season began appearing at markets in border communes of An Giang Province. Among them, young Henicorhynchus are being sought after by consumers despite their relatively high price.

According to traders, only small quantities of young Henicorhynchus have reached markets in the early days of the season, with each vendor selling only around 7-10 kg/day. This year, the fish have appeared later than in the same period last year, so supply remains limited.

Cleaned young Henicorhynchus are currently selling for around VND 250,000/kg, while whole fish are priced at approximately VND 190,000/kg. According to traders, although supply remains limited, prices have not increased compared with the same period last year.

The fish are mainly sourced from Tan Chau, An Phu and Chau Doc in An Giang Province before being distributed to markets in Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long and several neighboring localities.

In addition to Henicorhynchus, other familiar flood-season products, including sesbania flowers, water lilies, wild water spinach and various types of wild vegetables, have also begun reaching the market.

Sesbania flowers currently sell for around VND 50,000-60,000/kg, while wild water lilies are priced at approximately VND 6,000/bundle. Local residents have also begun harvesting various seasonal wild vegetables to supply markets.

According to traders, as the flood season reaches its peak, the supply of Henicorhynchus and wild vegetables is expected to increase, making these products more abundant in the market. This is also when flood-season specialties are particularly popular among consumers in the Mekong Delta.\
