Coffee prices on May 20 globally

Global coffee prices today rebounded as the market entered oversold territory after three consecutive weeks of sharp declines, triggering technical buying and short-covering activities by investment funds. At the same time, declining coffee inventories on the InterContinental Exchange (ICE) over the past two months also supported the price recovery.

Accordingly, on the London exchange, robusta coffee futures for July 2026 delivery reversed course and rose 1.18% ($39/ton) from the previous session, reaching $3,345/ton. The September 2026 contract increased by 1.04% ($33/ton) to $3,208/ton.

Global coffee prices today erased early-session losses and moved higher as the three-week selloff pushed prices deeply into oversold territory, triggering technical buying and short-covering demand from investment funds.

In addition, declining coffee inventories on ICE over the past two months also helped support coffee prices.

Robusta coffee inventories on ICE fell to their lowest level in two years at 3,631 lots by the end of last week. Meanwhile, arabica coffee inventories on ICE dropped to their lowest level in around 2.75 months, reaching 458,735 bags as of May 19.

Traders said expectations of a bumper crop in Brazil this year are still putting downward pressure on the market.

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) stated in its monthly report, released on April 19, that global green coffee exports in March rose slightly by 0.8% year-on-year to 11.7 million 60-kg bags, as increases in robusta and Central American arabica exports offset declines in shipments from Brazil and Colombia.

According to the ICO, global robusta coffee exports in March increased 24% year-on-year to a record 5.52 million bags, mainly driven by Vietnam, the world’s leading robusta producer, where exports surged 30.3%.

The “other arabica” category, including arabica coffee from Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, recorded a slight increase of 0.9% to 2.59 million bags.

Thus, global coffee prices on May 20, 2026 rebounded across major trading exchanges.
